Smooth Rose

Rosa blanda

This shrub produces a lovely single petaled rose so characteristic of old wild roses. The flower is pinkish-white which produces a hip in late summer. The stems may have a few thorns at the base, but generally are smooth. Tolerant of both sand and clay soils. The hips are high in vitamin C, & eaten by birds. First Nations used Rosa to treat eye diseases.
