Sandcherry
Prunus pumila
This low branching shrub spreads nicely along the ground, has course foliage, white flowers in the spring and edible black fruit in summer. Spectacular fall foliage completes the seasonal display with leaves changing to pinks, reds and purples. This shrub likes full sun, tolerates a wide range of moisture and should be used more in the landscape. Once common along the shorelines of the lower Great Lakes, now is seldom seen here. Provides food for birds & mammals.
